Cancer Council Australia welcomes Professor Maxine Morand AM as new Chair

Cancer Council Australia today announces the appointment of Professor Maxine Morand AM as incoming Chair of Cancer Council Australia.

Professor Morand AM brings a wealth of leadership, cancer research and public health experience across her notable career.

Starting her professional life as a nurse before joining Cancer Council Victoria as a researcher, Professor Morand AM is passionate about improving outcomes and care for all Australians affected by cancer.

Her leadership in cancer care and policy has been cemented by her experience as CEO of Breast Cancer Network Australian and most recently as Chair of the Peter McCallum Cancer Centre.

As a Member of the Victorian Parliament and serving as the state’s Minister of Children and Early Childhood Development and the Minister for Women’s Affairs, she led reforms that advanced women’s rights, equity and healthcare.

She is currently an Adjunct Professor in the School of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University.

Professor Morand AM said “Australia’s cancer outcomes are among the best in the world but with cancer incidence expected to increase over the next decade, we need to push the boundaries on cancer prevention, early detection, research and care for those Australians affected by cancer.

“We have an opportunity to continue to build upon Australia’s position as world leader in cancer care and control and I look forward to working with the Board, our state and territory colleagues and the team at Cancer Council Australia to reduce the impact and incidence of all cancers, for all Australians.”
