Gather, share and give in support of Aussies affected by cancer
3 February 2017
Cancer Council's Australia's Biggest Morning Tea, 25 May 2017 #BiggestMorningTea
One Australian is diagnosed with cancer approximately every five minutes, the length of an average tea break. Throughout May and June Cancer Council is calling on Aussies to pop on the kettle and prep the menu for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea to raise vital funds for Cancer Council.
This year, Cancer Council will also be celebrating the unique cancer support services that Australia's Biggest Morning Tea hosts help fund. For example, every year Cancer Council provides almost 60,000 Australians with information about cancer via 13 11 20 and over $1.6 million in financial assistance to those in need.
Gary Mehigan, Miguel Maestre, Darren Purchese and Lyndey Milan are just some of the top chefs that will be baking and decorating for this important cause in 2017 by hosting and attending events, sharing delicious recipes and revealing insider tips about how to host a memorable morning tea in the 24th year of Australia's Biggest Morning Tea.
Cancer Council Australia CEO, Professor Sanchia Aranda, said Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is a great way for Aussies to support the one in two Australians who will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 85, as well as their loved ones.
"Each of the thousands of morning teas that will take place in workplaces, communities and peoples' homes play a vital role in ensuring Cancer Council can continue to provide a wide range of support services across Australia to those affected by cancer. In addition to support services, Cancer Council also works in the areas of cancer research, prevention and advocacy.
"Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is an opportunity to gather your friends and loved ones together to raise vital funds to ensure Cancer Council can continue its vital work, including support for those affected by cancer. It also can provide an opportunity to start a conversation about cancer. This year, we want to encourage Australians to take the opportunity at their morning tea to talk about how to support someone living with cancer and to remind them about how Cancer Council can help."
The official event date for Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is Thursday 25 May 2017. Morning teas can be hosted anytime in May or June.
