Supportive Care Worker (North West)
Cancer Council Tasmania
0.6 FTE, based in Devonport
Cancer Council Tasmania is here for all Tasmanians who turn to us for support. Whether this is for one-on-one emotional support, group sessions, transporting people to treatment or providing financial support and complimentary therapies.
All of these supportive care services are provided free of charge state-wide to anyone who needs it, made possible through the generous financial support of the community. Our team’s aim is to respond to the needs of the community and work to identify opportunities where we can increase access to, and knowledge of, our services for those who need them - due to service expansion we are now recruiting for a new Supportive Care Worker to join us.
In a nutshell, this role involves being there for our clients – though supporting our clients with their cancer related concerns and issues; providing similar phone-based support; delivering our support and educational programs; and promoting and raising awareness of our services – understandably the role of Supportive Care Worker is a significant and rewarding community focused role.
Having previous experience in a supportive care role is pretty important as you'll be required to provide face-to-face, person-centred support directly to clients. Ideally you’ll have related tertiary qualifications, a good understanding of state-wide and local health and community networks and the major issues facing Tasmanians impacted by cancer.
You’ll also get to work with an incredibly capable and committed team of staff and volunteers who are delivering these essential services. So you’ll need to be self-organised, a skilled and compassionate communicator and bring a caring and positive attitude to your daily work.
At 0.6 FTE, this role would suit someone who is looking for part-time work or even wants to work shorter days to accommodate school pick up or other commitments. The incumbent would ideally be based in Devonport, though Launceston-based applicants can apply with the understanding that consistent regular travel between the two locations would be necessary.
